From Victim to Advocate
Trapped in an abusive marriage, The Haven of RCS offered Shannon Turner and her three young children not only a safe place to live but also the support and encouragement to create a stable and healthier future for her family.
“I was terrified and confused,” recalls Turner. “It took a lot of courage to pick up the phone and admit what was going on.”
Turner’s brave phone call to the RCS 24-hour crisis hotline likely saved her life. Escaping with only a few grocery bags of clothing and basic necessities, Turner felt safer when she learned her husband was eventually arrested on felony charges.
The difficult task of starting over wouldn’t have been possible without your generous support. From career assistance to childcare, Turner embraced the tools she needed to eventually live independently and now counsels other women facing similar circumstances.
Every year, more than 100,000 Pinellas residents like Turner seek crisis intervention services to escape domestic violence, hunger and homelessness. PCF donors like you make it possible for The Haven of RCS to continue to provide a reliable pathway to self-sufficiency.
