Safeguards for Your Fund

As time passes and community needs evolve, your favorite charity may change its mission, or unfortunately, close its doors. Should this occur, Pinellas Community Foundation (PCF) assures your funds continue to support your wishes by redirecting your donation to the most appropriate local nonprofit. In this way, your intended donation continues to give as you envisioned.

Unrestricted Funds

You may wish to bring good health, purpose and hope to all residents of Pinellas County but don’t know exactly where the need is greatest. Your unrestricted gift to the Pinellas Community Foundation (PCF) supports the unmet or future charitable needs of the Pinellas community. Pinellas Community Foundation applies unrestricted donations to give where the need is greatest. Over 60 charities benefit by receiving competitive grant funding each year.

Restricted Funds

Whether it is your alma mater, a museum you love or the hospice that cared for your loved one, you name the specific charity or charities you would like your endowment to benefit.

Field of Interest Funds

You may have a cause you’d like to support but aren’t sure which charities would benefit most from your donations. Through rigorous research, PCF can identify nonprofits that focus on the issues most important to you.

Donor Advised Funds

Should you wish to actively direct the distributions of your charitable fund and take a tax credit in the year of your donation, a donor advised fund from Pinellas Community Foundation (PCF) is a good choice. You’ll save time and expense on fees when PCF serves as your fiduciary.

By donating to PCF versus directly to your charity of choice, you’ll enjoy the full value of your funds—including appreciation. As a result, your selected charity receives more of your donation.

Adhering to the Pinellas Community Foundation (PCF) guidelines, donor advised funds are governed by a binding agreement between you and PCF.

Scholarship Funds

Providing a lasting gift for deserving students while creating a legacy in perpetuity is a meaningful way to give back to the community. And while you may choose to select scholarship recipients, many Pinellas Community Foundation scholarships established by generous donors are awarded directly by the designated colleges and universities.

Students interested in applying for a scholarship should check with a school counselor or the financial aid office for information and applications.

Combined Endowment Funds

A combined endowment fund gives you the opportunity to invest in the future needs of your favorite charities. The structure of a combined endowment allows you to pool your donation with others giving to the same charity. The larger asset size allows the fund to maximize investment and performance, while the reduction in fund management fees provides your favorite charities a greater return on your generous investment.

You recommend an area or specific organization you’d like your gift to support, or you may choose to rely on the community foundation’s experienced program staff to determine and address the areas of greatest need in our community.

Your gift—and all future earnings from your gift—is a permanent source of community capital, doing infinite good work.

Agency Endowment Funds

Many charitable organizations seek the means to protect and enhance the financial gifts that will enable their worthwhile efforts for years to come. Agency Endowment Funds are particularly useful to charitable agencies whose contributions fluctuate with changing economic conditions. These funds offer a predictable revenue stream for essential cornerstone agencies to fulfill their charitable mission into perpetuity.

Typically, net income is distributed to beneficiaries annually; however, an agency may choose to have the interest reinvested over a period of years to increase the size of the fund when planning for future capital expenditures.
