Volunteer Docents at the Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art
The museum offers a comprehensive training program for docents every few years. During the course, volunteers learn about modern and contemporary art as well as the collections in the museum. The docents give museum tours, help with special events and presentations, and assist St. Petersburg College students with assignments.
If you visit the Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art, you might be greeted by a docent like Gail or Sonia. They volunteer for all sorts of reasons. However, just being at the museum with the beautiful collections and the crowds of art-loving guests always makes them smile.
“As a docent, of course, I’m interested in the artists and the techniques,” says Gail, “but as just an individual, I found that art is a pathway to myself.”
Serving as a docent helps these volunteers remain young and active. Pinellas Community Foundation works hard to support organizations like the Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art that promote cultural literacy and encourage vitality among local older adults.
