American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding provided through PCF, allowed Neighborly to purchase four more fuel-efficient vehicles to power their Meals on Wheels program for seniors in Pinellas County.
Neighborly has been helping seniors avoid premature institutionalization since 1966. Their primary goal is to support seniors in maintaining their independence, enhancing their quality of life, and ensuring they have access to the resources and services they need to age comfortably and safely within their communities.
Through its various programs and services, Neighborly strives to create a supportive environment for older adults and individuals with disabilities, promoting their well-being and social engagement. Pinellas Community Foundation had the chance to sit down with Director of Development, Susan McIntyre, to discuss recently awarded ARPA Funds.
“PCF sent out notices about the specifics of the money to be given out and we were on board immediately” said Susan. “When we were filling out the grant, the [PCF] staff was eager to help with any questions and walked us through modifications.’”
Neighborly’s Meals on Wheels program delivers nutritious meals to homebound seniors, ensuring they receive proper nutrition and support for their overall health, avoiding the need for loved ones to miss important days in their own lives. Neighborly dedicates themselves to more than just the Meals on Wheels program — they offer a more well-rounded approach to senior care — transportation services, adult day care centers, health & wellness programs and caregiver support.
“Transportation is key. We offer rides to our programs, like adult day care and senior cafes, as well as rides to medical visits like dialysis and cancer centers.” Susan went on to mention. The Neighborly staff is trained to participate in door-to-door, dignified service with clients, which keeps Neighborly as the best option for a ride-sharing service.
Neighborly’s commitment to the well-being of seniors remains unwavering, exemplifying how ARPA funds, combined with collaborative efforts, drive positive change and fortify essential services for the benefit of vulnerable populations. Through these initiatives, Neighborly continues to make a profound difference in the lives of seniors, ensuring they receive the support they need to age comfortably and safely within their communities.
