Terry had visited Daystar Life several times while moving through an especially difficult chapter of his life. Without stable housing, he slept wherever he could and rarely knew what the next day would bring. Daystar helped meet some of his immediate needs with food, clothing and personal hygiene items. During one of Terry’s visits to Daystar Life, he met Nevada Wardlaw, a nurse from St. Anthony’s Hospital’s Faith Community Nursing program. Nevada provides free health screenings to Daystar’s neighbors several times each week.
As they talked, Nevada learned that Terry had been living without stable housing for some time. He was nearly blind in one eye and had not had access to a shower in several days.
Nevada connected him with Michele, one of Daystar Life’s resource navigators. From there, Michele began identifying available support and worked with the Community Assistance and Life Liaison team, known as the CALL team.
That same day, they secured Terry a place at Best Care Senior Living.
In a matter of hours, Terry went from uncertainty to having something many people take for granted: a clean, safe place of his own. He was especially excited to have his own television.
About a week later, Terry returned to Daystar to thank the people who had helped him.
“Y’all really changed my life… I ain’t stopped smiling since.”
